The story

October 9, 2024. The storm took the roof.

Hurricane Milton came ashore near Siesta Key as a Category 3 storm. Through the night, the fabric roof of St. Petersburg's domed stadium gave way and large sections were torn loose. By morning the dome stood open to the sky.

St. Petersburg photographer Ed Allen drove over, documented it, and kept a piece of what came down: the real roof membrane, a translucent fiberglass fabric coated in PTFE. That salvaged material is what every Roof Drop is made from.

From the maker
Photographers have always had to stay fluid. Mixed media isn't new, staying relevant is. Especially now, with AI doing so much of what we used to. You stay in it by taking the risk and making something real. This is that.

Production status

Prototype stage. Drop 001 is a straight preorder. Your order locks in a numbered piece from the planned edition of 100. Each one is handmade one at a time and shipped after the preorder window.

Estimated fulfillment

Pieces are expected to ship within about 60 to 90 days of your order, once the edition is produced. If anything shifts, you will hear from us directly.

The Roof Drop is a limited collector card holding a real piece of material salvaged from St. Petersburg's domed stadium roof, which was torn open by Hurricane Milton on October 9, 2024. Drop 001 is a numbered 2.5 by 3.5 inch relic card.

Is the roof material real? +

Yes. Each card holds a genuine piece of the salvaged roof membrane, a PTFE coated fiberglass fabric recovered from the damaged stadium roof. It is not a reprint or a replica.

How many will be made? +

The edition is planned at 100 numbered cards, 001 to 100. When they are gone, that is the entire edition.

How much is it, and how does the rising price work? +

Drop 001 is a rising-price preorder on a planned edition of 100. It starts at $97 for the first ten pieces, then the price goes up $10 for every ten sold ($107, $117, and so on up to $187 for the last ten).
